Epoxy curing agents are additives used in chemical reactions of epoxy resins to form a mesh stereopolymer, thereby converting linear resins into tough body solids. The following are the main types and characteristics of epoxy curing agents:
Basic curing agents
include aliphatic diamines and polyamines, aromatic polyamines, other nitrogen-containing compounds and modified aliphatic amines.
The curing reaction involves the active hydrogen on the nitrogen atom opening up the epoxy group and causing it to cross-link and cure.
Acid curing agents
include organic acids, acid anhydrides, boron trifluoride and their complexes.
The curing reaction usually involves the reaction of epoxy groups with acidic substances in the acid anhydride to form polymer solids with high strength and good hardness.
Additive curing agents
such as curing agents undergo addition reaction with epoxy groups to form part of the segments of the curing product, and linear molecules are cross-linked into bulk structural molecules through stepwise polymerization.
The manifest curing agent
includes addition polymerization and catalytic curing agents.
The addition polymerization curing agent starts the curing reaction after dissolving at high temperature, while the catalytic curing agent causes the epoxy group to ring-open and add polymerization through cationic or anionic means.
Latent Curing Agent
This curing agent is relatively stable at room temperature, but it only starts to show activity and cure the epoxy resin when heated to a certain temperature.
Amines-based curing agents
include primary and secondary amines. The curing effect of epoxy resin is to open up epoxy groups through active hydrogen on nitrogen atoms and make them cross-link and cure.
Acid anhydride curing agents
include dibasic acids and their anhydrides such as maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride. The curing reaction is slow, the heat exogenous amount is small, the application period is long, and the operation is convenient.
These curing agents are widely used, including coatings, adhesives, packaging materials, electronics and chemicals, among which coatings are one of their main application areas, with the advantages of high gloss, good hardness, and strong adhesion.
