Hexane is a hydrocarbon naturally occurring in petroleum and one of the main components of petroleum ether and naphtha. The chemical formula is C6H14, which belongs to linear saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons. It is a colorless and transparent liquid at room temperature, with a slight petroleum odor. It is easy to volatilize, and steam is heavier than air. An explosion mixture is formed with air, with an explosion limit of 1.18% to 7.4% (volume fraction). Hexane is widely used as cooking oil extraction solvent, rubber solvent,
artificial leather finishing agent, precision device cleaning agent, clothing detergent, pharmaceutical tablet detergent, and preparation of
mixed solvents .
There are four isomers in n-hexane, 2-methylpentan (isohexane), 3-methylpentan, 2,3-dimethylbutane (diisopropylane), and 2,2-dimethylbutane (newhexane) [3], all of which are colorless, volatile and flammable liquid alkanes with a faint special odor.
